History of the Soddy Daisy Food Bank

Members of Soddy and Daisy United Methodist Churches formed the Soddy Daisy Food Bank in 1989. This insightful group came together to provide food for a few hungry families in North Hamilton County.

Mr. Gene Elliott was the force driving the initiative to help with food assistance in our community. In 2025, the Soddy Daisy Food Bank building was named “Charles Eugene (Gene) Elliott” for his lifetime commitment to the people of this community.

Since the inception of Soddy Daisy Food Bank, volunteers from our local area have been working together to provide and distribute food to families in our community who need temporary assistance. The all-volunteer workforce has grown to approximately 80 dedicated volunteers serving approximately 300 families a month in our community.

In 2012, the Soddy Daisy Food Bank incorporated as a charitable non-profit organization. Incorporation enables the food bank to serve the ever-increasing needs of those in our service community.
